A Poem by Tyler Hazeltine

Feet shuffle.
I move forward.
They go back.
I lunge.
Could I win?

My foot readies to move.
I swing .
I miss.
I go back.
Could I win?

They're getting closer.
They lunge.
They swing.
I attempt to block.
Could I win?

They hit.
I've lost.
I fenced my best.
I learned new things.
I didn't quit.
I lost.
But could I win?

I'm having fun.
I love fencing.
I'm the worst of all.
But could I win?

Like the seed of a plant.
I am small and tread upon.
Will that seed grow?
Will it be great one day.
Maybe it will.
Maybe it won't.
Could I win?

Determination.
Will.
Wanting.
Trying.
Listening.
Learning
This is what it will take to thrive.
Tell me.
Could I win?

I am a caterpillar among butterflies.
I must be a butterfly and grow.
That butterfly wants to be grander than all others.
Tell me.
Will I win?
